Nimits vs Google Tasks
Both are reminder apps on Android, and they solve different problems. Google Tasks keeps lists in step across your devices. Nimits makes sure a reminder on your phone gets an answer.
At a glance
| Nimits | Google Tasks | |
|---|---|---|
| When it is due | Takes over the screen, even when locked | A notification |
| If you ignore it | Rings again every 5 min until you answer | Nothing more; a swiped notification is gone |
| Record | Completed, skipped or missed, a month at a time | Ticked or not ticked |
| Account | None | Your Google account |
| Devices | This phone only | Phone, web, Gmail and Calendar |
When something is due
Google Tasks posts a notification. Swipe it away and it is gone, whether or not you did the thing. Nimits takes over the screen and comes back every five minutes until you complete it or skip it.
What happens afterwards
Nimits records each reminder as completed, skipped or missed, and History shows the month at a glance. A skipped one is left out of your figures. In Google Tasks an unticked task stays on the list, and nothing records that its time came and went.
Which to choose
- Google Tasks, for lists you manage on a computer, tasks shared through your Google account, or things with no fixed time.
- Nimits, for anything with a time that must not be missed: a bill, an appointment, feeding a pet, the school run.
Plenty of people use both: the list in Google Tasks, and the few things that have to happen at a time in Nimits.
